Somali Social Unity Party (SSUP) Conference on Role of Political Parties in a Democracy
After the 2016 presidential elections in Somalia, the country will be gearing towards a one man one vote in its future elections 2020. The Somali Social Unity Party (SSUP) under the leadership of Yassin Mahi Mallin, a 2016 presidential candidate in Somalia, will therefore be hosting a two days conference for political leaders aligned to the social democracy ideology that SSUP believes in.
The conference called the “Role of Political Parties in a Democracy.” will take place at Lotos Inn & Suites Hotel, 19 Mpaka Road, Westlands from Monday 5th to 6th December 2016 as from 10:00am. This conference is with the support of Swedish Social Democratic Party and Olof Palme International Center and is aimed at laying the foundation for the Somali Social Unity Party as a political movement by the people of Somalia
The conference brings together political actors from Somalia and will provide a common forum for political discussions, networking and experience sharing by their Kenyan counterparts. The conference will be addressed by the Labour Party Leader Hon. Ababu Namwamba, Labour Party Chair Hon. Prof. Julia Ojiambo and the Labour Youth Congress President, Asha Abdi Adan amongst others.
In attendance will be representatives from the Swedish Social Democratic Party; Anders Osterberg, Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister for Labour, Marten Lofberg, Deputy International Secretary, from Olof Palme International Center; Michael Leyi, the deputy head of operations and Jens Orback, former Minister for Integration, Sweden. The Somalia delegation includes members of parliament aligned to SSUP, Hon. Maryan Aweys Jama, former minister for gender, Federal Republic of Somalia, Hon. Mohamed Omar Mohamud, the party Women and Youth League leaders; Mohamed Nur Hussein, SSUP Chairman Youth Wing Representative.
